Memoriam: Christopher Hitchens

>> Thursday, December 22, 2011

Last week well-known anti-Theist Christopher Hitchens died and went to meet his Creator. Christopher Hitchens was truly an amazing man. He was an immensely gifted writer, speaker and wordsmith. He was someone that could melt your heart on the one hand and force a violent reaction on the other. He was a person created in the image of God and is worthy of our love and concern. We acknowledge the fact that he was at war with his Creator-- but, that is precisely where all of us would be without the gracious act of God opening our eyes to see Jesus and the beauty of the Gospel.

He was also a man that shared a lot of common beliefs with Christians (he was pro-life and a defender of the unborn) and in many respects was on the same side of the fence as us. However, he was an outspoken enemy of the faith which he spent many of the last years of his life attacking. As far as we can tell, he died in that state- and if he did- sadly, his day of reckoning came. It is a tragedy because he knew the Gospel. As a matter of fact, you can pull audio where he actually corrects men like Dinesh D'souza and "liberal" Christians on what Christianity really is. Our prayers go out to those who loved him and were touched by him.

What should be the Christian response to the death of Christopher Hitchens? How did he help us? How do we respond to his positions and those of his Atheist devotees?

In this broadcast and audio of Redemption Radio (brought to you by Calvary Addiction Recovery Center) I interview Sye Ten Bruggencate of proofthatgodexists.org and Luke Pierson of Apologia Church (defendthefaith.org). Douglas Wilson on end-times (commercial free!)

>> Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Check out the audio for this very special episode of Redemption Radio (sponsored by Calvary Addiction Recovery Center). I interview our special guest Douglas Wilson who is a well-known author/pastor/theologian and Christian Apologist. He has debated Dan Barker from the freedom from religion foundation and he and Christopher Hitchins had a very well-done movie made about their debate tour called "Collision"-- you should definitely pick-it-up.

In this broadcast we look at the issue of eschatology or the study of last-things otherwise known as end-times stuff. What we say may actually shock you. Doug wrote a great little book called "Heaven Misplaced". I share the same view of end-times as Wilson (postmillennialism) and it is not very common but I believe is the most faithful to the text of God's Word and will excite you and change your view of the future. Have I peaked your interest yet? Check-it out! I believe this episode will be very helpful to many Christians.

Pastor Luke Pierson also joined me and helped with the show-- his beard was also present in the studio. :]

Justification and Imputation with Vocab Malone

>> Saturday, November 26, 2011

How important is justification by faith? The Apostle Paul saw a distortion of it worthy of eternal condemnation (Galatians 1). What is Justification by faith? What are the implications?

On this weeks broadcast of Redemption Radio (brought to you by Calvary Addiction Recovery Center in Phoenix) Christian Hip-hop artist/Radio personality/Pastor Vocab Malone and I chop-it-up over Justification by faith and the imputation of Christ's righteousness. Besides recovering from a recent surgery on my nose I think the show sounded great!

Check-out this episode of Redemption Radio and please share it with your friends.

*We are working on a way to get these cut so that there are no commercials. However, we want to make them available immediately-- so for now, they have commercials. :]

Blurring the Gospel

>> Saturday, November 19, 2011

This is one of the most important broadcasts that I have done yet-- related to current theological debates. This broadcast of "Redemption Radio" (sponsored by Calvary Addiction Recovery Center) deals with a very serious and dangerous theological view that is-- strike that-- HAS made it's way into Christian circles, churches and seminaries worldwide. It is called "the New Perspective on Paul". It ultimately represents a complete redefinition of Christianity. It completely redefines what the Gospel proclamation is, what Justification by faith is, what imputation is, etc..

My guest for this show is Dr. Cornelis Venema who is the president of Mid-America Reformed Seminary and is the author of several fantastic books. One book in particular addresses the New Perspective and the danger it poses to our understanding of the Gospel. This is a fantastic show that needs to be shared and shared. Also, joining me on this show was our friend and my debate partner Vocab Malone of Backpack Radio.

Check it out! And pick up a copy of Dr. Venema's book on the NPP called "The Gospel of Free Acceptance in Christ". You can purchase it here.

Right now this episode has commercials. We are going to hopefully upload a commercial free version soon.

Be sure to check out the History Channel's new show premiering Wednesday at 9pm eastern time called:  The Stoned Ages.  I was interviewed for this show a little while back by the host of the show, Dean Norris.  They came out and interviewed me because of my work with Calvary Addiction Recovery Center in the area of drug and alcohol addiction.  They wanted to interview someone who approaches the issue of addiction from a Christian perspective.

Be sure to check it out.  I pray God is glorified and Christ is exalted.

Apologia could use you....

>> Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Lately, God has thrust us into a whole new unexpected place.  As an outreach and equipping ministry we have been able to be a part of some fantastic outreach/radio programs.  As a church plant we are slowly growing every weekend!  And we have some great ministry stuff coming up soon that we are still working out details for that should really bless you and expand the Kingdom of Christ.

Ministry Needs:

We could really use your prayers as well as any financial gifts you might be able to give.  As a newer church plant we actually have been able to get where we are through the giving of people just like you who give graciously through our ministry.  Many times God has rescued us and showed His faithfulness in moments just like that.  And we are so grateful.

Would you consider giving a financial gift to APOLOGIA?  We are experiencing a tremendous shortfall at the moment and we are a very small ministry.  Any giving would be greatly appreciated and would bless so many.  We can't do this without your prayers and support and so we are grateful to God for you!

You can give to us directly by clicking the donate tab at the top of the page.  We are seeking a current financial need of $10,000.

Thank you so much for your support of this amazing ministry!

Soli Deo Gloria,

Was the reformation wrong?-- and the New Perspective on Paul

I believe this is one of the most important of all the shows that I have done with Backpack Radio.  This episode zeroes in on the New Perspective on Paul-- made popular within evangelical circles by N.T. Wright.  This broadcast will help you to better understand justification irrespective of the issues related to the New Perspective.  This is an episode you will want to download and listen to several times as the talking points are core to a proper understanding of the biblical Gospel.

 (Commercial-free episode!)

What a show!  If you have ever wondered if Jesus is truly the promised Messiah then you need to hear this episode of Redemption Radio (sponsored by Calvary Recovery Center).  Jeff Durbin interviews special guest Dr. Michael Brown.  Dr. Brown is an international speaker, author of over 20-books and has debated some of the most influential critics of Christianity (secular and rabbinic).  Dr. Brown recounts his experience as a drug-addict and talks about going from LSD to Phd.  This episode is one that needs to be shared.  You will be encouraged about the hope we have in Christ for freedom from addiction (and other things) as well as the clear testimony of Scripture showing that Jesus is truly the promised Messiah!  We also threw in a little Matisyahu just for kicks!

Was Jesus a false-prophet? And we have an urgent need....

>> Monday, May 30, 2011

Someone responded to our video on Youtube where we called Harold Camping out as a false prophet based on the Bible's demand of perfect prophetic fulfillment (Deut. 18:20-22).  In the video, the person was challenging our assertion and claimed that if we are calling Harold Camping a false prophet based on failed prophecy then by logical extension Jesus Christ was also a false prophet because "His glorious return to earth" didn't happen and that Jesus "didn't show up".  This is based on the Lord Jesus' clear prophetic statements in Mark 13, Matthew 24 (the producer of the video seems unaware of the fact that Luke 21 is also a parallel passage).  He also demonstrates clear ignorance of doctrine of the Trinity and the implications of the incarnation.  I'm in the process of making a video in response to this gentleman's video.  The simple answer is that everything in the Olivet Discourse revolving around the end of the age (the Old Covenant age with particular focus on the visible Temple standing) occurred exactly as predicted within the generation he was speaking-- as a matter of fact majestically so.  Actually, when I preach on the life of Christ I use the Olivet Discourse as one of the divine proofs of Jesus' role as Messiah.  This is nothing new to a Christian view of the Olivet Discourse this goes all the way back to the early centuries of the church as well as modern Christians like Lorraine Boettner, Dr. Greg Bahnsen, Dr. Kenneth Gentry, R.C. Sproul, Hank Hanegraaff, Gary Demar, Keith Mathison and many, many more.  So stay tuned!  In the meantime here is a link to a message Dr. Greg Bahnsen gave on the Olivet Discourse.  Great stuff!  Enjoy.

Also:
We are asking for your prayers and possible financial support for an very important and immediate ministry need of $5,500.  We want to thank you for your consideration of this.  You can call us directly or use the donate button at the top right hand of this page.  Thank you so very much for your prayers and support!

"Out of Mormonism Radio" part-two and a very important note!

>> Thursday, May 26, 2011

I was a guest on a radio program called "Out of Mormonism".  It was a two-part program focusing on reaching Mormons for Christ.  Here is a link to the show.

Check out what God has been doing:

1.  We have numerous baptisms coming up in a couple of weeks!  Should be somewhere around 10.  Praise God!

2.  Last week's service was awesome!  We had a bunch of new people.  We are growing in amazing ways.  God is so good!

3.  I've been given a unique opportunity to be on the  local Christian radio station KPXQ weekly for Calvary Rehabilitation facility for a 1-hour weekly show discussing drug and alcohol addiction from a biblical perspective.

4.  A major television network is doing a new show on drug and alcohol addiction and I am scheduled to be interviewed to discuss the Christian approach to addiction and healing.

5.  We have a possible debate that is being scheduled with Vocab Malone and I against two local Atheists at the end of the summer.

6.  We are continuing in prayer for a discipleship house for new believers that need extra-care as they turn from their addiction.

APOLOGIA IMMEDIATE NEEDS:

1.  We are presently in need of prayer and financial help and support.  We are experiencing amazing spiritual blessings and tons of fruit as God is saving many people.  However, like many small ministries like ours, we are struggling financially to make ends meet.  We are asking the Lord for an immediate need of $10,000 to help us get current and take care of some very critical financial needs.  Any help you could offer would be GREATLY appreciated.

2.  We have our wishlist of some current ministry needs on Amazon.com  when you purchase from our wishlist the items are sent directly to us.  Thank you! http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1O0AHGZDYMCCV

3.  Please consider fasting and praying for us.  God is blessing us and we need brothers and sisters to intercede for us in prayer.  Bless you!

Thank you so much for your kindness and gracious support!  We can't wait to rejoice with you in the presence of God in eternity over all the amazing things God has done through your giving and praying for APOLOGIA CHURCH!

Mustard Seeds to Huge Trees!

>> Monday, May 9, 2011

The Parables of the Mustard Seed and of the Yeast
31 He  presented another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven  is like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It’s the smallest of all the seeds, but when grown, it’s taller than the vegetables and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the sky come and nest in its branches.”

The Holy Bible : Holman Christian standard version. 2009 (Mt 13:31–32). Nashville: Holman Bible Publishers.

I cannot even express how grateful we are for all that God has been doing with APOLOGIA!  If you have just a few moments I would love it if you would take time to rejoice with us and praise God as you look at what God has been doing through your prayers and support.  Over the last few-months:

1.  I have done numerous radio programs equipping Christians to defend the Gospel.
2.  God has brought more people to Himself through our ministry and we are making disciples out of them!
3.  We held a public debate in Tempe with two local-atheists.  The event was packed with people and it was stellar.
4.  We handed out countless tracts at the Mormon temple in Mesa during their Easter Pageant.  A lot of people who joined us were new-believers that have only recently come to Christ and were so excited about Christ they just had to join us to proclaim the Good-news!
5.  I spoke at 3 very large winter camps for about 8 churches with several hundred teenagers from Chicago and Arizona.
6.  APOLOGIA CHURCH services have been going great!  You should see all the lives being changed!  We're talking miraculous things here folks!

We feel tremendously blessed to be a part of what God is doing and we simply feel so unworthy to be used to the degree that we are.  God gets all the praise for what has been going down.

We wanted to present something to you that has been a burden on our hearts and we are asking for your prayers or possible support.

Over the last year, Pastor Luke and I have learned a lot.  We have learned that only God can transform people's hearts.  We have also learned that God is truly faithful to His promises to grow His Kingdom and that he does so through really easily broken jars of clay like us.  God has given us a special heart and ministry to people that generally are deemed as 'hopeless'.  God has granted to us the very special privilege and honor of leading people who have struggled with intense drug and alcohol addictions to Christ and then walking with them as they grow in Him.

Where have we struggled?  One of the greatest difficulties we have found is that as these wonderful brothers and sisters have come out of these addictions many of them have to take time putting their lives back together and need extra special care and shepherding.  I wish you could see them it really is amazing.  However, Pastor Luke and I have a real burden to help them get grounded in Christ and to help them get their feet on solid ground as they grow while in a very fragile state.  Many of the people that have come to Christ and are now at APOLOGIA spend time living in half-way houses or three-quarter houses.  They range from doctors to janitors and from realtors to financial advisers.  So where is the difficulty?  Many of these new believers are in half-way houses that actually make it difficult for us to shepherd them in the way they need it.  Some of these places actually prohibit them from getting to church to grow and worship.  Many of these places make it difficult for Pastor Luke and I to be intimately involved in their spiritual growth and accountability.

So what are we thinking?  Pastor Luke and I are praying for God to give us the funds to purchase a house.  Our hearts desire is to have this house as a discipleship-house.  Pastor Luke is focusing on intense discipleship at APOLOGIA and would spend his time shepherding those who are in the house as they get grounded in Christ.  Our desire is to help these new-believers be in a safe, godly environment that will help them get to know God at a deeper-level, while encouraging discipleship, accountability and a life saturated with a love for God and a pursuit of delighting in Him!

We know this is a huge and seemingly (humanly speaking) impossible goal.  But with God "all things are possible"!  Will you join with us in prayer over this?  Perhaps you know someone or you yourself have the ability to make something like this actually happen.  We are having "big-faith" with this one and are grateful for the grace of God given to us even in the possibility.

Based on our current outlook we would need somewhere in the area of 150-175k to buy a house that would meet our needs.  Our hope would be to be able to have about 10-beds in the home.  Today alone, I spoke with 3-people who would love to be residents in the house.  If God gave us this house we could surely fill it!

Would you join with us in prayer over this?  We would be so grateful for any consideration you would have in this goal we have to grow God's Kingdom and to make disciples through the ministry opportunity provided by this house.

If you should have any questions please don't hesitate to contact either Pastor Luke or I personally.  Also, we want to thank you for any regular giving you felt led to give through APOLOGIA at this time as we are trusting in God to provide for our every need!
